Helsingborg, city and seaport, southern Sweden, in Skåne (Scania) County, on the Oresund (The Sound). It is situated opposite to Elsinore in Denmark, with which it is connected by ferries.

Helsingborg has approx. 125.000 inhabitants and is situated on the west coast of Sweden at the narrowest part of Öresund, which is approx. 4 km wide.In 1985 Helsingborg celebrated its 900th anniversary. The sound is said to be the worlds busiest sea channel. A large percentage of tourists arrive in Sweden through Helsingborg, which is also called "The pearl of the Sound".

The modern city was established in the early 15th century near the site of the old town, which was known as a trade center as early as the 9th century. A ruined fortress (The Keep) is all that remains of the old town. The city belonged to Denmark until 1658, when it was ceded to Sweden.

Helsingborg is an important port and one of the leading manufacturing centers in the country.

One of the first things you see when arriving in Helsingborg is "The Keep", the only part still standing of the medieval castle. A high tower which can been seen from afar.
