An "iso-line ", in accordance with normal cartographic usage, represents the locus of points having equal distance above a reference level, in this case the upper side of the instrument's rib.The "base-line " is formed by connecting all points at which the extended convex shape of the shell, in transverse cross-section, intersect the zero level.The zero-level coincides with the upper side of the rib.
